According to its website, Transcriptions is “a NEH-funded curricular development and research initiative started in 1998 by the English Dept. at UC Santa Barbara to focus on literary study and information society.

Transcriptons

Accordingly the Transcriptions Studio, “a combination research-and- development lab and seminar room,” functions in direct support of the Transcriptions project. Its resources include several computer workstations, a digital projector, videorecording equipment, and a part-time research assistant holding twelve to sixteen open hours each week. The studio is located in the UCSB English department in South Hall 2509. For open hours, please contant the current studio RA.

Julia Panko is a PhD Candidate in English at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  Her interests include British and European modernisms, the 20th century Anglophone novel, Irish literature, and theories of technology and information.  Julia will serve as Research Assistant for the UCSB Transcriptions Studio for 2008 Winter quarter.
